“We have a history of almost ten years. We used to train at a gym in South Florida (American Top Team_. It was blood, sweat and tears for ten years together and I helped him many times. I remember I helped him with the contract all the time because I was a little ahead and he asked about the amount of my payment, how much I would earn. I helped him to be a complete fighter and one day he decided to turn his back on me", declared Colby in an interview with the website 'The Daily Wire'.

The next challenger in the welterweight division (up to 77,1kg) said that the trigger was when Poirier's 'pressure' on the top brass at American Top Team led to him being kicked out of the gym.

“He acts like, 'If I'm not training with you, I'm not going to help you.' I was going to fight Lawler, who is a UFC legend and Poirier didn't want to train with me. He said he didn't want anything to do with me, that he didn't like my character and that he wanted me to be kicked out of the academy. He started talking about it to the gym owner and said 'I want him out'. Dustin was one of the reasons I was forced to leave my old gym. So we have a very bad story. I have nothing good to say about him,” concluded Colby.
