Gegard Mousasi celebrates 'calm' to keep belt at Bellator 265

Middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg.), Armenian-Dutch spoke about leaving a legacy in the division, but preaches respect to possible future opponents

Gegard Mousasi is ecstatic. The Armenian-Dutch, who knocked out John Salter, managed to keep his belt for the first time in Bellator 265 this Friday (13). In a post-event press conference, he highlighted his ability to remain calm and said he was happy with his performance in the duel.

“He caused me some danger in the first round, but I remained calm and psychologically strong. I didn't risk getting up quickly, as something could have gone wrong. I was strong in the fight in every way and managed to keep my title”, said Mousasi.

With the victory, Gegard maintained his position as 'untouchable' in the middleweight division and was asked about building his legacy in Bellator. The fighter, who will face Austin vanderford in his next fight, he says he wants to build 'one step at a time' to mark his name among the greatest in the company's history.

“I will have to face each of the middleweights and they are opponents who may not be well known, but they deserve the credit (of good fighters). But I'm here, showing up, and I want them to give me one by one to build my legacy”, concluded the champion.

At 36, Gegard Mousasi is one of the main names in the history of middleweights (up to 83,9kg.). In addition to the Bellator belt, the athlete has already been at the top of DREAM and Strikeforce. In his career, there are 48 wins, seven defeats and two draws.
