In a post-Bellator 265, an event in which he defended the middleweight title (up to 83,9 kg.) by knocking out John Salter in the third round, the fighter stated that he even sent a message to Jacaré after learning of his retirement from the sport.
“I sent a message to congratulate him (on his career). He helped me cut a weight when I was about to face him (in 2008). I was cutting four kilos and for me it was a lot. I still needed to lose a few grams, but he helped me with that. He's a very good, family guy. Great athlete. I just sent a message congratulating you on your career. He is a great friend,” said Mousasi.
The two fighters have an ancient history, with two fights and one victory for each. In the first fight, which took place in 2008 and marked the middleweight Grand Prix final at DREAM, Mousasi won Ronaldo Jacare with one pedal stroke and became champion. In the rematch, in 2013, the Brazilian encountered difficulties, but beat the Armenian-Dutch with a guillotine choke in the third round.
