Hired by Ultimate in 2019, Brazilian Melissa Gato can only make her debut in UFC 265 last Saturday (07). The Tupiniquim athlete spoke about the sensations of her first duel in the organization and declared that she did not notice the injury to her arm. “I don't think I can tell you how happy I am right now after all the times I've tried to be here, but I'm very, very happy to be here (at the UFC) tonight. It crossed my mind many times that I might not make it. But it was nothing that I thought was impossible, I was optimistic that one day I would be here”, said Melissa.
When asked about the fracture suffered by her opponent, the Tupiniquim fighter admitted that she realized that she had injured her arm, but that she did not detect the severity of the injury at the time.
“I knew she had hurt her arm, but I didn't know if it was broken or not. Once I tried the kimura, I soon saw her face. I thought it was because of my punch, but then I discovered it was because of my arm”, concluded the Tupiniquim fighter.
After more than two years of waiting, Melissa finally managed to make her debut in the organization chaired by Dana White. The Brazilian fighter defeated North American Victória Leonardo by medical interruption, after her opponent suffered an arm injury. The fighter has an undefeated career record of seven victories.
