The Brazilian Junior Gypsy is just one victory away from a new opportunity to compete for the heavyweight belt, which he held between November 2011 and December 2012. According to UFC president, Dana White, Cigano will compete for the heavyweight title if he wins Mark Hunt on the 25th of May.

The director's statement, made during the UFC 159 press conference, last Saturday (27), goes against what had been announced by the organization until then. White himself had already said that another Brazilian, Fabricio Werdum, he would have a chance at the title if he won Rodrigo Minotauro at the TUF Brasil 2 coaches meeting, in June.

PUBLICITY:

Cigano's opponent, if he beats Hunt, will be an old acquaintance. This is because his opponent leaves the heavyweight belt dispute between his compatriot and friend, Antônio “Pezão” Silva and Cain Velazquez, with whom he has already fought for the title twice. The fight between Pezão and Velasquez takes place at the same event in which the Brazilian faces the New Zealander, UFC 160.
