Kamaru Usman claims he could beat Canelo Álvarez in a boxing match

The UFC welterweight belt holder praised the world champion boxer, but assured that he could beat him in the ring

UFC welterweight champion (up to 77 kg) and second in the organization's weight-for-weight rankings, Kamaru Usman doesn't seem to fear anyone. The Nigerian stated that he could beat multi-time boxing champion Saul Canelo Álvarez in a possible meeting in the ring.

The statement was made during a question and answer session held by Kamaru Usman on his official Instagram profile. Despite saying he was confident of victory, the UFC champion praised the Mexican.

“I think I can do anything I put my mind to. I don't disrespect Canelo. I think he is one of the best and greatest of his generation. I respect his abilities and think he is a phenomenal champion. But I also know that what I put my mind to, I go there and achieve. So, if it's in the plans for the future, maybe we'll dance. Let’s see,” said Usman.

Before thinking about a fight against Canelo Álvarez, however, Kamaru Usman He has a duel against his rival Colby covington. The two face each other on November 6th, in a rematch in the main fight of the UFC 268, at Madison Square Garden, in New York. In the first meeting between the two, held in 2019, the Nigerian defended his title with a knockout in the fifth round.
