“I always said that it never crossed my mind to have surgery. The only possibility was if something like this happened and it did. Now the doctors say I have indestructible shin. It's unbreakable. I'll have to wait for the swelling to go away and work hard on it. I will stand up, balance, strengthen my muscles and gain strength. In the meantime, I'm going to walk around the streets of California with my little toy, breathe for the first time since the surgery and keep my mind working. I will recover and I will return to the top,” said McGregor.
The Irishman even revealed that he had already suffered an injury before the duel against Poirier. Despite this, Conor says that Ultimate's 'medical department' already knew about his situation, but he wanted to continue the fight.
“I went into combat injured. Ask Dana White and the UFC department head. They know. I was stressed before the fight. We even talked about canceling the fight, because I was training with shin protection. I had numerous ankle problems from fighting for all these years. I had to tape them in every workout. I trained many times with them swollen, and even then I didn't stop”, added the 'Notorious'.
Conor McGregor he will no longer play in 2021. The Irishman received a 180-day medical suspension from Ultimate and must present a medical clearance from an orthopedist for the broken leg if he wants to return before January 7th, which seems unlikely at the moment.
