With confirmation that Colby Covington will be the next challenger for the welterweight belt (up to 77,1kg), Michael chiesa he did not hide his displeasure. The American stated that 'Chaos' does not deserve the opportunity because he only had one fight in the last 18 months and pointed out possible opponents for the champion Kamaru Usman. The statement was given in an interview with podcast of the former fighter Michael Bisping.

“Colby is a fierce competitor but I think he is a sh*t of a human being. Guys like myself, (Vicente) Luque, (Leon) Edwards, who are actively fighting and striving to become the number one contender should be rewarded with the opportunity to fight the champion. It shouldn't be the guy who lost, won a fight and waited. This is not enough”, stated Chiesa.

Showing irritation with the controversial fighter, 'Maverick' insinuated that Covington got the rematch against Usman just because of his provocative style.

“If that were the case, Luque should be the next challenger. He submitted Woodley in the first round while Covington took five. This guy only had one fight in a year and then he was away. What is most important in sport? Win fights and go on a winning streak or just be a guy who says what he says? He is offending people's religion and family. He’s just standing there looking like an idiot,” Michael concluded.

Current number six in the category, Chiesa has been riding a streak of four straight victories. 'Maverick' hasn't felt the 'bitter taste' of a defeat since July 2018, when he was finished by Anthony Pettis. Your next confrontation will be against Vincent Luque, UFC 265 scheduled for August 7th.
