Looking for an opportunity to challenge Kamaru Usman, Stephen Thompson believes he can end the reign of the welterweight champion (under 77,1kg). The 'Wonderboy' stated that he considers it a 'terrible confrontation' for the Nigerian and recalled that he is one of the few in the category who has not yet shared the Octagon with the belt owner. The statement was given in an interview with 'MMA fighting'.

“I think I'm a terrible matchup for him. I feel like I'm the last man standing now. If I get a good victory over Gilbert Durinho, Usman will have to face me”, said the American.
The former category challenger mentioned some of the top-10 opponents who have already faced the Nigerian and recalled that he has not yet had the opportunity to face the division leader.
“I'm the guy who hasn't faced Kamaru Usman. It seems like everyone in the top 10 has fought him at some point. Leon edwards fought him in the past. Gilbert Durinho e Colby covington also. He just knocked out Jorge masvidal. Like who else is this guy going to fight? The other day he was talking about fighting with Michael chiesa, so why not me?”, concluded 'Wonderboy'.
Current number four welterweight, Stephen Thompson recovered from a bad phase and managed to score two consecutive victories. His next challenge will be against the Brazilian Gilbert Durinho No. UFC 264 next Saturday (10). The fighter has a record of 16 triumphs, four setbacks and one draw.
