It has been speculated for some time, behind the scenes at Ultimate, that Rashad evans could move down from the light heavyweight category, of which he is a former champion, to the middleweight division. In an interview with the program ufc tonight, on North American cable TV, Evans confirmed that the change could occur, but conditioned it on the result of his fight against Dan Henderson, at UFC 161.

“I'm not worried about losing my job. I've been in a lot of great fights in the UFC and I'm confident I won't lose my next fight. If I lose, I would consider moving down a weight class. If I go down to middleweight and things aren't going well, then I'll start thinking about retiring,” he declared.

“Suga” Rashad evans, as he is known, took the opportunity to criticize his performance in his last fight, against Brazilian Rogério “Mintouro” Nogueira, at UFC 156. “I watched a little of the fight (against Minotouro). It was a mediocre performance on my part. It was one of those life lessons. You watch a fight like that, and you think, 'What was I thinking? Where was my head?'”, said the 33-year-old athlete.

Rashad evans will face the veteran Dan Henderson at UFC 161, in Winnipeg (Canada), on June 15th. The event marks the Brazilian's second defense of the interim bantamweight belt. Renan Barao, against Eddie Wineland. Furthermore, the long-awaited rematch between Rogério Minotouro e Mauritius Shogun is also scheduled for the evening.
