Stephen Thompson says Covington doesn't deserve to be the next welterweight challenger

After Dana White assured that the loudmouth would be Kamaru Usman's next opponent, 'Wonderboy' declared that he did not agree with the decision and explained the reasons

Even with confirmation that Colby covington will be the next challenger for the welterweight belt (under 77,1kg), Stephen Thompson demonstrated that he did not agree with the decision. The North American stated that 'Chaos' does not deserve a rematch against Kamaru Usman and explained the reasons. The statement was given in an interview with his podcast.

“In the first fight, Usman finished him off. Colby came to swing. Colvington was throwing a lot of strikes but wasn't landing anything. His last fight was with Tyron woodley. I don't think he deserves the title shot, maybe it should be me or (Leon) Edwards”, said the 'Wonderboy'.

If the dispute between Usman and Colvington is made official, it will be the second duel between the two athletes. The first fight took place in UFC 245 in December 2019. On that occasion, the Nigerian knocked out the controversial loudmouth in the fifth round and kept the category belt.

Current number four in the welterweight rankings, Stephen Thompson recovered from the bad phase and achieved two consecutive victories, over Vincent Luque e Geoff neal. Former challenger in the category, 'Wonderboy' is looking for a new opportunity to fight for the belt. The fighter has a record of 16 wins, four losses and one draw.
