MMA is a box of surprises. Last Brazilian to enter the octagon on the preliminary card of the UFC Las Vegas 30, held this Saturday (26), Danilo Marques started well, but ended up surprised in the last round in the confrontation against Kennedy Nzechukwu. With a technical knockout, the Tupiniquim lost his unbeaten record in Ultimate.

Representative of the light heavyweights (up to 93kg), Marques made the commitment to continue the good start in the organization. With a changed opponent and less than a month left before the show, the Brazilian had good moments, opting for a grappling fight, but became careless in the opening seconds of the last stage. With the result, Danilo loses his first in the UFC and has his streak of four consecutive victories interrupted.

In his fourth fight with Ultimate gloves, Kennedy made good on his reputation as a knockout artist. Before exchanging forces with the Brazilian, the Nigerian had five knockouts in eight victories as a professional in the sport.

The fight

In the opening seconds, Danilo attacked Nzechukwu and easily reached his opponent's back. ‘Backpacked’ on his opponent, Marques struck his opponent’s head, trying to reach the rear naked choke. Facing the bars, Kennedy tried to protect himself, but the Brazilian's pressure continued. The São Paulo native continued to insist on his position and, calmly, continued to dominate his opponent. The assault ended with the Brazilian still on his back.

In the second round, Marques continued to take the initiative. Faking blows to shorten the distance, the São Paulo native continued to score against the Nigerian. After dodging a straight shot from Nzechukwu, Danilo looked for his opponent's legs, took him to the ground and, again, reached his opponent's back. The Brazilian continued rehearsing the rear naked choke and punched his opponent to open up space. Kennedy managed to explode, stayed on his feet and landed good clean blows to Marques' face. After the scare, the São Paulo native returned to grappling and, clinging to Nzechukwu's waist from behind, tried to repeat his position at the beginning of the stage. In the final seconds, the fighters started to exchange franks, but there was no more time.

The last stage began with Kennedy attacking Danilo, seeking to recover from the initial loss. With a clean combination of punches, Danilo ended up succumbing to his opponent's powerful blows. Observing the Brazilian's condition, the referee interrupted the confrontation, declaring the knockout.
