After controversy against Werdum, Renan Problema recovers and beats North American in PFL 6

Brazilian neutralizes Samoan's game and wins by judges' decision, but fails to qualify for the heavyweight playoffs

On the PFL 6 preliminary card, held this Friday (25), in Atlantic City (USA), Renan Problem He faced the North American Carl Seumanutafa in a duel valid for the heavyweight season (up to 120,2kg.). After the controversial result in his first fight that ended 'no result' against Fabricio Werdum, the Brazilian fighter recovered and, this time, came away with victory in a unanimous decision from the judges (30-27, 30-27, 30-26).

Despite winning, Renan Problem says goodbye to the heavyweight tournament (up to 120,2kg). The Brazilian got four points, but didn't do enough to qualify for the playoffs. In his record, he has seven wins, two defeats and one fight without result.

Carl Seumanutafa, on the other hand, is in a delicate situation in his career and now has more defeats than victories. In total, there are 25 fights, with 12 triumphs and 13 setbacks. Furthermore, the North American hasn't won in four fights.

THE FIGHT

Renan Problem he took the first steps in the fight, with a front kick and a low kick – the latter of which even knocked Carl Seumanutafa off balance. The Brazilian also took advantage of a takedown attempt to land on top and, from half guard, connected hard punches to his opponent's waistline. He continued scoring until the gong sounded.

In the second round, another hit by Renan Problem. Willing to keep alive the chance of qualifying for the playoffs, the Brazilian went for 'all or nothing' and connected with a cross that made Carl Seumanutafa fall. On top, he preferred to attack the ground, set up and applied a katagatame, but was unable to catch it.

The third stage was marked by a surprise. Carl Seumanutafa attacked with a takedown and spiked Renan Problem on the ground, in the opening seconds. The North American, however, was unable to attack and simply kept his opponent 'trapped' on the ground.

First Brazilian female representative in PFL 6, Mariana morais entered the decagon with the mission of recovering from the defeat suffered by Kayla harrison in May this year. And, in a duel valid for the lightweight category, the Brazilian achieved her objective and defeated Kaitlin Young in the judges' split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28). She, however, failed to qualify for the playoffs of the division.

Firstly, Mariana managed to get a takedown using judo, but soon saw Kaitlin reverse the situation and apply hard punches. She felt it and was saved by the bell. The second round was marked by the high intensity of both fighters, highlighted by another fall near the cage of the Brazilian. In the last and decisive round, Morais was superior in his striking and connected direct shots that scored and made the difference to the final result.

At 25, Mariana morais wins again after a tough defeat in the first round against the current division champion. His record now has 17 wins and 11 losses. Already Kaitlin Young was coming off a triumph over Cindy Dondois, who is in the main fight of the night. Now, she has 12 positive results, 11 negatives and one draw.

If you want to have a chance to qualify for the playoffs Jamelle Jones would need to knock out or submit the newcomer Klidson Abreu quickly, so he did. In the first fight of the night, the North American took down the Brazilian in the opening seconds and hammered on the ground and pound, in a brutal way, until the referee stopped it. He now faces Bruno Cappelozza in the tournament semifinals.

With the result, Jones adds six points and places himself among the first in the heavyweight table (up to 120,2kg). Now, in his career, the formerContender Series has a record of 11 triumphs and six setbacks.

On the other hand, Klidson debuts on the wrong foot in the PFL. The 'White Bear', as he is known, had his third fight without winning – two defeats and a draw. He has a record of 15 positive results, five negative results and one 'no contest'.
