In recovery from the fracture suffered in the UFC 261, Chris Weidman I still have major concerns for the coming months. The former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) stated that his recovery is positive, according to the doctors, but admitted that there is still the possibility of amputating his leg. The statement was given in an interview with 'MMA fighting'.

“There's still a lot of things I have to deal with even taking away that piece of bone that's floating there (in his right leg). The blood supply needs to return completely to my leg. I'm not even worried about it but if it doesn't happen that would be the biggest problem, because that would mean amputation. So let's keep praying that I regain full blood flow,” Weidman said.

The middleweight said that the concern exists because something similar happened to his thumb, even though his doctor stated that, so far, his progress is positive.

“That's exactly what happened to my thumb. I have a hip bone that's on this thumb right here because the one here deteriorated and the blood flow didn't return after I struggled with Kelvin Gastelum. The tibia bone is most likely to regain its blood supply after an injury. I thought I kicked as hard as I could, and I know I did, so it's a very traumatic fracture. That said, I think I'm fine. The doctor said that there is some healing happening inside and the bone is rebuilding, so that is a very good sign”, concluded the former UFC champion.

The estimated recovery time for Weidman is 8 to 12 months. The former champion fractured his right leg when he threw a low kick at Uriah Hall No. UFC 261, which took place in April. The 'All American' has a record of 15 wins and six losses.
