In August 2013, at UFC 163, he ended up breaking the spot in front of the former champion José Aldo, in his only chance to win the featherweight belt (up to 65,7kg.). On that occasion, however, he attacked and was knocked out by the Brazilian. This time it was different, as 'Zumbi' overcame the pain until the end of the duel against Ige.

“(It’s the) same shoulder he injured in the Aldo fight. In the second round, when he tried the takedown and got caught on his back, that's when (his shoulder) kind of moved in and out of place. We constantly told him to put his hands up. So after the fight he said, 'That's why I couldn't raise my hand' and I just agreed,” said the trainer.
