After suffering from COVID-19, Wellington Turman says he is ready to put on a show against Bruno Blindado at UFC Vegas 29

In an exclusive interview to SUPER FIGHTS, Turman says it took him a while to return to training normally after contracting COVID-19 and having complications with pneumonia, which affected him in training and halted his progress.

“I ended up suffering from COVID-19. Usually athletes catch it, but don't feel anything. But I felt a lot of pain in my body, tiredness, pain in my lungs. But, thank God, I have good health. I did the quarantine properly and had a fight scheduled, but I couldn't handle it. But, even with pain, I started training again even though I wasn't feeling well. I always had very good gas, but after COVID I did three rounds and felt a lot of pain in my chest. It’s a new disease and we don’t know what’s happening”, reported Turman.

The most worrying case of a fighter also happened in Ultimate. Welterweight promise (up to 77kg.), Khamzat Shimaev announced his retirement after suffering the consequences of the illness. Now, Turman reveals that she 'understands' the feelings conveyed by the Swede.

“It's really bad that you're training and not performing, especially without knowing why. I was dieting, doing physical and technical training, but I couldn't perform. It had never happened to me. The head goes a little crazy. It's what I like to do, so it gets very worrying. But, in the end, everything worked out and I'm recovered”, said the Brazilian.

CLASH OF STYLES

The fight against the newcomer Bruno Blindado It is marked by the difference in styles between the fighters. Wellington Turman is based on jiu-jitsu, while Blindado focuses on striking. The Curitiba native, however, indicates that he trained in all areas and promises a 'show' to Brazilian fans.

“He’s a knockout guy and comes for striking. But I'm prepared for anything. Ready to change or do jiu-jitsu. We're going to have a great fight, because I want to do a great fight for the public. The preparation is great, we just had one complication getting into the United States, but I'm feeling good. I want to ask the public to watch us. The crowd doesn't like fights between Brazilians, but we'll go up to put on a great show and show that Brazil is one of the biggest names in MMA.”

EVOLUTION IN MMA

Pointed out as one of the great Brazilian promises at middleweight (up to 83,9kg), Turman cited the main differences since he debuted in Ultimate, around two years ago. According to the Curitiba native, he made small adjustments to his lifestyle to improve as an athlete. Currently, Wellington has two defeats and one victory in the organization.

“I have matured a lot as a person and as an athlete. Now, I live the life of an athlete. Nowadays, I really live the sport. I improved a lot technically and nowadays I'm a much better athlete than before. I was a child, 22 years old. I've never been a party goer and I like the life of an athlete. So, there were things that could be improved and these are the things that make a champion”, he added.

At 24, Wellington Turman wants to get back on the winning track after being knocked out by Andrew Sanchez, UFC Las Vegas 6. Currently, the Curitiba native has a record of 16 triumphs and four setbacks in his career.

Yes, Bruno Blindado, 31, is a former M1 champion and debuts in the organization after suspension from USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency), which took him out of action for two years. Now, he has a record of 19 positive results and six negative results in professional MMA.
