Dana White confirms duel between Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega for UFC 266

The fight valid for the featherweight belt was scheduled for September 4th, according to the agent; The location of the show has not yet been determined

The fight for the featherweight belt (up to 65,7kg) between Alexander Volkanovsky e Brian ortega already has a date set. UFC president Dana White stated that the two athletes will face each other in the UFC 266 scheduled for September 4th and speculated possible locations for the show. The statement was given in an interview with 'Submission Radio'.

"Will be in UFC 266 (the duel between the two athletes). Everything is going in the right direction. I don’t know yet if it will be in Canada or Australia, but everything else seems to be going well,” said Dana.

The duel was originally scheduled for the UFC 260 in March of this year, however, the fight was canceled after Volkanovski tested positive for Covid-19. Due to the champion's long recovery time, the two athletes were selected as coaches for the twenty-ninth edition of the 'The Ultimate Fighter'.

O UFC 266 will also host the confrontation between Jan Blachowicz e Glover Teixeira, valid for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg).

Featherweight leader since 2019, Alex will defend his second belt after two consecutive victories over Max Holloway, one as a challenger and the other in a rematch after winning the title. The Australian fighter has a record of 22 victories and just one setback. His last negative result was in May 2013 when he was knocked out by Corey Nelson at a local event.

Number two in the division rankings, Brian ortega will have his second chance to win gold in the category. On the first occasion, in December 2018, the North American was 'run over' by Max Holloway at UFC 231. The fighter has a record of 15 triumphs and only one setback in professional MMA.
