St-Pierre suggests that Jones waits for Ngannou to define the future: 'It's like a game of chess'

GSP still believes that the North American has already achieved the status of the greatest fighter in history and can look forward to a confrontation against the French-Cameroonian

Since he announced that he would give up the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg.) towards the heavyweight belt (up to 120,2kg.), Jon Jones lives a dilemma in Ultimate. In search of financial appreciation, the North American admits waiting until 2022 to debut in the new division and has the alternative of facing Stipe Miocic in his debut, instead of the superfight against Francis Ngannou, which holds the category title.

In an interview with the podcast 'Steve-O's Wild Ride', Georges St-Pierre gave his opinion on the matter. Former UFC welterweight (up to 77kg) and middleweight (83,9kg) champion, the Canadian suggested that Jon Jones wait for a solution to a title clash.

“I think Jon (Jones) should fight the champion (Francis Ngannou) and not against Stipe (Miocic). It's like a game of chess, because each move is an important decision in the game. Just because you beat a guy doesn't mean you'll always win. I think it would be a mistake if Jones fights Stipe,” said St-Pierre.

Despite considering that 'Bones' would win the duel, the Canadian still stated that it's not worth taking the risk. For him, the North American has already reached the level of 'greatest of all time' and should wait until an opportunity arises for a fight against Francis Ngannou. It's worth remembering that the French-Cameroonian could make his first title defense against Derrick Lewis, still this year.

“I believe Jones would beat Stipe. But why take the risk of fighting Stipe when you can wait and fight the champion to get two belts? Jon Jones, who is the greatest of all time, could run off into the sunset if he gets another title. The value would be even higher than any other in history. He can do whatever he wants,” added GSP.

Out of light heavyweight since August 2020, Jones has been out of the Octagon for over a year. His last commitment took place in February last season, when he hit Dominick reyes in the one that marked his farewell to the group. Months later, the fighter gave up the belt and made his move to the heavyweight division official.
