The legalization of MMA in New York gained an important ally this Wednesday (13). Governor Andrew Cuomo took up the cause and defended the approval of the modality in the state.
“We’re looking for economic activity anywhere we can find it, right? The MMA is a possible place for economic activity. We have a huge audience for MMA now. I understand the other side of the coin, but I think it's something we should move forward with,” said Cuomo, in an interview with “Times union".
The governor, with a lot of good humor, also joked that, despite not being a fan of the sport, he intends to watch MMA events. “I'm not a follower, a fan of MMA... But when I have a particularly frustrating session with the press, I'll watch MMA a lot,” he joked.
Last week, the New York Senate approved, by 47 votes against 14, the regulation of sport in the State. Now, the vote goes to the Chamber, which has already vetoed the project in the past.
