Dana White explains Chandler's reasons for fighting for the lightweight title with just one UFC fight

After receiving criticism, the president defended himself and justified the choice of 'Iron' to compete for the belt in the under-70,3kg group.

After suffer criticism for choosing Michael Chandler to fight for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg) with just one fight in Ultimate, Dana White defended himself. The agent justified himself by claiming that the North American never refuses fights or opponents and spoke about the great willingness of 'Iron' in signing a contract with the UFC. The statement was given in an interview with 'TSN Sports'.

“He’s always willing to fight anyone or go anywhere and do anything. That kind of attitude and the way he entered the fight against (Dan) Hooker led him to where he is now”, declared the agent.

The 'big boss' told how the negotiations to hire Chandler went and stated that 'Iron's' great interest in signing with the company weighed heavily on the quick signing of the contract.

“When we were getting ready to hire him, I was at the airport getting ready to take off, and my lawyer called me and said, 'Are you going to pick up the phone and talk to him.' I talked to Chandler for five minutes. He is the coolest kid in the world, he has a great attitude, he wanted nothing more than to be in the UFC and fight for the world title”, concluded the president.

Professional since 2009, Michael chandler debuted in Ultimate with a first round knockout over Dan Hooker No. UFC 257 in January of this year. The fighter has a record of 22 wins and five losses in his career. The North American will face charles do brox No. UFC 262 next Saturday (15) in a duel valid for the lightweight title.
