With a renewed contract with the UFC, Edson Barboza He did not hide his happiness at having remained in the organization. The featherweight (up to 65,7kg) thanked Ultimate for extending his contract, he said he was happy with the salary increase and talked about his next fight, against Shane burgos on May 15th. “I am 100% happy. The new contract proves that they like my work. They gave me 'the number' I wanted and I'm very happy with that. I was very motivated to get a (salary) raise and the UFC gave it to me. They made me very happy”, thanked Barboza.
The Brazilian spoke about his duel against Shane burgos and stated that he hopes to face an opponent from top-5 if he wins the fight.
“I was happy with this fight because Shane (Burgos) is one of the best in the division. It's going to be a big war. He's a great fighter. In the UFC he is one of the most talented and the organization always gives me the chance to fight against the best”, concluded the fighter from Nova Friburgo.
With 10 years of Ultimate recently completed, Barboza is looking to consolidate himself in a new division. In May 2020, the Brazilian debuted in the featherweight division against Dan Ige and was defeated in a controversial fight. The 35-year-old fighter won his first in the new category in October of the same year when he triumphed over mawan amirkhani in the judges' decision.
With a record of 21 wins and nine losses in his professional career, Edson already has a match scheduled to try to achieve his second consecutive victory in the new division. The veteran will measure forces against Shane burgos No. UFC 262. The show will be held in Houston, Texas (USA).
