VIDEO: Renan Problema reveals how he wants to beat Fabrício Werdum and says he is ready to debut in the PFL

In an exclusive interview with the SUPER LUTAS channel, a Brazilian talks about his expectations for the fight and projects a future in the organization


On the eve of the most important fight of his career, Renan Problem is excited about his chances in the confrontation against Fabricio Werdum. The heavyweight, who debuts in the PFL (Professional League Fighters) this Thursday (6), reveals his happiness with the arrangement to face 'Vai Cavalo' and indicates that he is ready for the duel.

Professional since 2013, Renan highlights that the duel is the most important of his career and makes a point of praising his compatriot. In an exclusive interview to the SUPER LUTAS channel, the Brazilian bets that his size will be the difference in winning 'Vai Cavalo'.

“It’s the most important fight (of my career). I know there will be many more tough fights to come, but this is the most important. (…) the fight is a lottery. 50 to 50. So, I prepared well in all areas. Werdum is a guy with a lot of quality on the ground and has very good striking. But I know that my wingspan is very big, my striking is very good, and I bet on that. But I prepared well for all areas,” he said. Renan Problem.

Coming from victory before Jared Vanderaa in August 2019, the Tupiniquim athlete highlights that he has been preparing for the opportunity and recognizes the qualities of Fabricio Werdum. According to him, his compatriot is versatile and remains at a high level in his career.

“For me it was like a blessing to have such a tough opponent arrive so soon, with so many qualities and positive points. If God put it in my path, it's because he has a project for me. And I prepared very well for that. In all areas, I know he has great qualities on the ground and striking. He is a very versatile guy, who is always changing levels in the fight and I am very happy with this opportunity”, continued the fighter.

READY FOR THE OPPORTUNITY

Despite highlighting that he is excited about his debut being against one of the biggest heavyweights in history, Renan Problem revealed that he was preparing for any other athlete in the tournament. As a result, upon discovering that he would face Fabricio Werdum, he just needed to make some adjustments to his game.

“When they (PFL) announced that Werdum was in the tournament bracket too, I was already preparing for any of them. And I already had to be among the best, dedicate myself to the maximum and fight at a high level against these guys. So, when (the name of) Werdum came out, I was already prepared for it and I only changed what I needed to adjust for the fight strategy and continued the work”, he said.

VISIBILITY OF 'CANAL COMBATE'

At the end of March, 'Canal Combate', which belongs to 'Grupo Globo', announced a partnership with the North American league to broadcast live events. Now, Renan Problem reinforces that the visibility of fighters will also increase.

“It was a great joy when people said that (the duel) would be broadcast on Combate. Today, it is one of the most seen doors. I'm very happy and it will give a huge boost to the careers of all of us who are here at PFL and having the main fight with a great athlete like him and broadcast on Canal Combate, couldn't be better”, he highlighted.

GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH PFL

On the rise in the world of MMA, the PFL stands out for its good relationship between managers and athletes, in addition to promoting a 'check' of one million dollars (around R$5,7 million) for the winner of each season. According to Renan ProblemIn fact, the good treatment that the organization offers is a major differentiator for its growth.

“Today, I am very happy with the PFL. The treatment they have given to each athlete is very good. We have a very good structure, with a gym and mats. I see that I am in a high-level organization and I don't worry about what will happen. Let’s see what’s in our future, but I know that good things are coming”, he concluded.

ATHLETE HISTORY

At 31, Renan Problem has six wins and two losses in his career in mixed martial arts, where he debuted in 2013. The Brazilian, who was in the LFA, won Jared Vanderaa in its last presentation, which took place in August 2019.
