Anthony Johnson calls the fight against Yoel Romero the toughest of his career

Close to his Bellator debut in a superfight against Cuban, American praises opponent on May 7

Former UFC standout, Anthony Johnson He has already had tough challenges in his career in MMA. At 37 years old, however, the fighter is close to having his toughest commitment in the sport. According to the veteran himself, the confrontation against Yoel romero will mark your biggest challenge. The athletes will face each other on May 7th, at Bellator 258.

“Apart from some of my training partners, Yoel wins the title (of toughest rival). I can think about this at the moment: Romero is the most dangerous fighter I've ever faced”, said the American, in a press conference for 'half day' of the event.

Close to the long-awaited debut in the 'new house', Anthony doesn't want to belittle the Cuban. The fighter, who participates in the organization's light heavyweight (up to 93kg) tournament, stated that he is not thinking about his next rivals, as he needs to beat Yoel to continue competing in the championship.

“I didn’t think ahead. I'm focused on Romero. I can't see beyond it. I didn't think about Corey (Anderson), (Ryan) Bader, (Vadim) Nemkov. I only think about Yoel”, he declared.

In addition to being a great opportunity to stand out in Bellator upon his debut, the clash against Romero will mark Johnson's return to action after more than three years away from MMA. The veteran has not performed since 2017, when he was surpassed by Daniel Cormier in the light heavyweight title fight, still in the UFC.

Just like Anthony, the Cuban also had a title fight in his last challenge. Romero said goodbye to Ultimate months after the defeat in the confrontation against Israel adesanya, which was marked by a lack of combativeness.
