After starring in one of the most shocking moments in the history of MMA, last Saturday (24), at UFC 261, in Jacksonville (USA), Chris Weidman his health status was updated by his wife, Marivi. With a fracture in his right leg similar to that of Anderson Silva, in 2013, the veteran underwent surgery last Sunday (24) and will begin the recovery process. The tragedy occurred in the clash against Uriah Hall.

“That was horrible. Strange things happen in life and plans are destroyed. It's been a long day, but I'm so happy to finally see my man after surgery. My heart breaks for my husband, because I know the work and dedication he puts into his training every day, and what a great man he is, so I only want the best for him. Although this time is bad, and for some weeks to come, we are feeling embraced by the love and support we have been receiving everywhere, and we feel so blessed. All of this outweighs the horror of this situation. We were reminded this year of how precious each day is and I am grateful to spend another day on Earth with my love, even if it is in a hospital room far from home,” the athlete’s wife wrote on her Instagram account.

In the duel against Hall, Weidman was trying to add his second consecutive victory in the UFC, something that hadn't happened since 2015. What we saw, however, was a moment of despair on the part of the public and spectators of the show.

The fight against Hall practically didn't happen. It took 17 seconds until the traumatic moment. Uriah, in fact, did not land any blows on Chris, who had his leg fractured after a singular kick to his rival.

After the incident, Weidman was taken out of the octagon on a stretcher and received support from the audience, who filled the arena in Jacksonville. The former middleweight champion received several tributes after the drama. One of them was sent by Anderson Silva who, more than seven years ago, experienced the same situation, curiously, in front of the North American himself.

“That was horrible. Strange things happen in life and plans are destroyed. It's been a long day, but I'm so happy to finally see my man after surgery. Everything went well. Thank you, Lord. Very grateful for the medical team, UFC family (…) and our family and friends coming together here to help with the children. My heart breaks for my husband, because I know the work and dedication he puts into his training every day, and what a great man he is, so I only want the best for him. Although this time is bad and for some weeks to come, we are feeling embraced by the love and support we have received everywhere, and we feel so blessed. All of this outweighs the horror of this situation. We are grateful that our friends and family offered to help us without hesitation. We are grateful and love you all. It's been a crazy year so far, but we, the Weidmans, are a force covered in grace and mercy. We have been reminded this year of how precious each day is and I am grateful to spend another day on Earth with my love, even if it is in a hospital room far from home.”
