Usman demands more frequency from Covington and disdains his rival's challenge: 'You can't just wait'

After running over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261, the champion responds to the challenge from the North American, who is considered next in line

Absolute leader in welterweight (up to 77kg.), Kamaru Usman takes a serious stance when it comes to Colby covington. Challenged by North American after running over Jorge masvidal No. UFC 261, the Nigerian responded with disdain to the loudmouth's advances. In a press conference after the show, the champion spoke about the situation and made demands on his rival.

I knocked out my last three opponents. At the moment, I need time, to continue training and improving. This guy has to show me something. Now, I'm the champion and the most active guy in the division. He can't just wait for me to call him. Ask Dana (White), I faced everyone they put in front of me. I never said 'no”, said the Nigerian.

Present in Jacksonville (USA) to closely monitor the UFC 261, Covington saw his rival's attack on Masvidal up close. Even watching the devastating knockout, the North American was not impressed with the Nigerian's performance and continued to say that he will be next in line for the eventual rematch.

Confessed enemies, Usman and Colby faced each other for the first time in December 2019. On that occasion, the athletes staged one of the most exciting clashes of that season. The duel, however, did not end well for the loudmouth, who ended up with a knockout in the last round.

With the triumph over Jorge, Kamaru reached the mark of four title defenses, his second in 2021. In February, the champion beat Gilbert Durinho and guaranteed his hegemony in the division.
