Without the long-awaited title fight, the businessman Justin gaethje, Ali Abdelaziz, took to social media to complain about the lack of a strong opponent for his athlete. Immediately, the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg), Rafael Dos Anjos, showed interest and asked for a fight against the North American. The challenge was made through the Brazilian's official account on 'Twitter'.

“Guess who is the highest ranked fighter in the world? ranking, What is available? I'm in. Send me the contract,” wrote Dos Anjos.

Current number two in the lightweight rankings, Justin gaethje has a record of 22 wins and three losses. Hired by the UFC in 2017, the 'Highlight' was among the favorites to compete for the division title, which became vacant after the retirement of Khabib Nurmagomedov. In his last fight, the 32-year-old fighter was defeated by the former category leader, in the UFC 254, in October 2020.

Lightweight champion from 2015 to 2016, Rafael Dos Anjos seeks to return to the top of its original division. The Niteroi native is currently in seventh place in the ranking of the category. After a stint at welterweight (up to 77,1kg), the Brazilian returned to the group he was once leader in with a victory over Paul felderin November 2020.
