With an eye on the welterweight title (up to 77kg), Colby covington is preparing to fight for the category belt, even without being scheduled for the fight. The controversial fighter stated that he is training to replace Kamaru Usman ou Jorge masvidal, if one of the two cannot participate in the duel scheduled for April 24th.

“We are in Miami (USA) now. It's a three and a half, four hour journey. I'll take a bus to Jacksonville and show up for the fight. I'll be there. So, if someone leaves, I'll come in and we'll evaluate from there. I just want to have good fights and capitalize on the peak of my career. So let's see what happens in a few weeks”, said the 'Chaos', in an interview with 'The Schmo'.
Although Ultimate has not officially announced Colby as a reserve, the welterweight states that he will be ready on April 24th in case one of the two fighters is unable to attend. As he is the current number one in the rankings, the former interim champion believes that he will be called up immediately, if there is an unforeseen event.
"Everyone knows. The UFC didn't tell me, but I think it's pretty self-explanatory that I'm the reserve for this fight. If something happens, someone gets COVID-19, anyone gets scared and leaves the fight, I will show up. This is my destiny”, concluded Colby.
With a record of 16 wins and two losses, Covington is currently considered one of the best fighters in the division. In his last nine fights, the American was beaten just once. The setback occurred in UFC 245, in December 2019, when Colby was defeated by the champion Kamaru Usman, by knockout.
