American Sean Sherk lost the UFC lightweight belt after being found guilty of doping in the 73rd edition of the event, when he faced Hermes França. Last week, Sherk managed to have his sentence reduced from one year to six months, but it was not enough to keep his title.
The decision to strip Sherk of his title was confirmed yesterday by officials from the American organization. Last month Dana White, president of the UFC, had announced that B.J. Penn and Joe Stevenson would fight for the interim title of the category, since Sherk was suspended for doping.
There is still no information from UFC officials about Sherk's next fight, nor whether it will be against the winner of the Penn x Stevenson duel.
