With the retirement of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Ultimate forwarded the fight between charles do brox e Michael chandler for the vacant lightweight title (up to 70,3kg), for the UFC 262. The organization's decision was not satisfied Justin gaethje, who expressed his dissatisfaction and the fact that he was passed over from the title fight. The statement was given in an interview with the channel ‘Raptors MMA'.

“I can't say much about it. Maybe I pissed someone off, I don't know. All I know is that since I was 12, 13 years old, I've always heard Dana White say in interviews what he wanted in a fighter, and I have all those qualities,” said Gaethje.
Outside of the dispute, Justin stated that he hopes to face a well-ranked opponent. Even upset with Ultimate,'The Highlight' said that he still does not intend to change organizations.
“If I am disrespected, it will be painful because I truly believed what Dana White said. I feel like I've been a company representative since day one. I never want to go anywhere else, I never want to fight anywhere else. But my principles are the most important thing to me, so we’ll see what happens.”, he vented to the lightweight.
Hired by the UFC in 2017, Gaethje has a record of 22 wins and three losses. After four consecutive victories and winning the interim division title, the athlete won the right to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for title unification, in October 2020. Against the Russian legend, however, Justin was submitted by the Russian in the second round.
