“He's taking his time to get strong and I know he's going to make that change and embrace it to get 100% and do everything he needs to be ready. I have a lot of confidence in Jon, because it's almost like he doesn't know how to lose. When he gets in there (in the Octagon), he’s almost certainly going to win,” said Holm.
In addition to the physical part, Holly believes that the experience gained by 'Bones' over more than 12 years of career will also be a differentiator for success. According to the American, the new challenge will only add to the fighter's talent, who reigned supreme in the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg) for 10 years.
“I think Jon always knows how to defuse pressure. I think it's one of the most important things. There are many things that make Jon incredible and unbeatable. One of them is that he handles a lot of pressure well. Many people in his position, where there are a lot of expectations, sometimes don't perform really well. Even if they train hard. I think he really knows he’s doing what he needs to do,” he concluded.
'Bones' announced his move to heavyweight in August 2020. At the time, the American gave up his belt in the under-93kg category. and began the process of gaining muscle mass, to act as equals against his future opponents.
There is still no set date for Jones' heavyweight debut. However, UFC president Dana White recently confirmed that Jon will face the winner of Stipe Miocic e Francis Ngannou (UFC 260) for the category belt. The clash should take place between June and September.
