Days after the tough defeat to Kamaru Usman No. UFC 258, in the dispute for the welterweight belt (under 77kg.), Gilbert Durinho is already studying the next steps in his career. Ready to regain his status as title challenger, the Brazilian already has his favorite names for his next commitment. In an interview with 'MMA Junkie', the Niteroi native revealed the clashes that interest him.

“First of all, when I got back to the hotel (after the setback to Usman), I was already thinking, 'I want to face Colby (Covington) next.' But Colby can face Leon edwards. 'Alright, give it to me Michael chiesa'. The names continued to appear. Maybe 'Wonderboy' (Stephen Thompson). To be honest, I don't know at the moment. I just saw that 'Colby x Leon' isn't happening. Even without being sure of his next step in the division, Gilbert has five names that he considers relevant for his comeback. Assessing the current scenario of the category, the Brazilian explained his desires.
“A fight to get back to the title fight would be Colby covington. (…) or Leon edwards, if, by May, he does not receive another opponent (the Englishman had the confrontation against Khamzat Shimaev canceled for the third time). I don't know who I want. I want any of these guys. I face Khamzat, 'Wonderboy' (Thompson), Michael chiesa. It depends. If the UFC says I need two fights (to regain my status as a challenger), then I'll be a little behind in the rankings and then a guy at the top of the group. But if they say I need a fight, that's fine. Give me Colby covington”, Finished.
After the setback suffered by Usman, Durinho ended up losing first place in the group led by Usman. The athlete ended up overtaken by Colby, who defeated Tyron woodley in an imposing manner in his last appointment.
