Going through a bad phase with two consecutive defeats, Lyoto Machida was announced in Grand Prix light heavyweight (up to 93kg) of Bellator. In the tournament, the Brazilian faces his old opponent and former category champion, Ryan bader, on April 9th. In a press conference, the fighter tried to praise his opponent and said that there will be no feeling of rematch if he faces tough athletes from the past.

“I think we are changing ourselves every day. Of course we cannot change everything – as we have basic principles at our core – but in general we will always change. I have to move forward and just focus on fighting against Ryan bader. He's a different fighter. I'm a different fighter, with more experience and fights under my belt. The moment is different now,” said Machida.
When asked about the tournament and the possibility of being able to take revenge on former tormentors, such as Phil Davis e Yoel romero, Lyoto Machida highlights that there is no obsession with revenge.
“I don't really care who I face because there will only be one champion. If they put any obstacles in my mind, I won't make it. That's why I consider all these opponents to be very strong and difficult. I don't care about anyone now. My only focus is my next fight against Ryan bader”, concluded the fighter.
In 2012, Lyoto Machida e Ryan bader they faced each other in the co-main fight of UFC on FOX 4. On that occasion, the Brazilian beat the North American with a knockout in the second round and qualified to face Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title (up to 93kg).
