“Charles (from the Bronx) fought the best, he's knocking him out and he's recovered. He proved what martial arts are all about and says a lot about perseverance and believing in yourself. I respect that,” said Poirier.

The North American also said that Charles of the Bronx deserves to fight for the belt before Justin gaethje. According to him, the Brazilian is on a good run and never had a chance to test himself for the lightweight title.

“Charles (from the Bronx) deserves it because he never had the opportunity. Gaethje came here and was defeated, like me (against Khabib Nurmagomedov). But Charles probably (should fight for the belt) or let them face each other,” he concluded.
