Before fighting at UFC 257, McGregor donates more than R$2,5 million to Poirier's charity

Irishman puts rivalry aside and provides financial support to 'The Good Fight Foundation', managed by the American

protagonist of UFC 257, which takes place this Saturday (23), in Abu Dhabi, Conor McGregor he put his rivalry aside and made a generous contribution to the foundation administered by his opponent, Dustin poirier. According to one of the Irishman's representatives, 'Notório' will support the cause with a donation of US$500 (around R$2,7 million) to 'The Good Fight Foundation'. The information was released by 'MMA Junkie'.

In a press conference held last Thursday (21), which was attended by the four representatives of the main fights of the night, Dustin poirier made a point of making McGregor's achievement public. With the microphone in hand, the North American thanked the Irishman, who has been calmer in his appearances.

“You don’t want it to feel like we’re giving each other back rubs. But, Conor, I just want to make it clear that Conor's team at 'McGregor Sport & Entertainment helped my foundation and began the donation process. So, Conor, man to man, you will be helping a lot of people with this,” said Poirier.

Before the confrontation between 'Notório' and 'Diamante' was confirmed by Ultimate, the athletes, at the end of 2020, reached a verbal agreement for a confrontation outside the UFC. At the time, both Dustin and Conor said they were dissatisfied (Poirier regarding his salary and McGregor for not challenging for the belt last season) with the organization and agreed to promote a charity show.

The duel, however, was not authorized by Dana White and his team. Shrewdly, the company president tried to promote the fight within the company.

In this way, Conor and Poirier, who are at the top of the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg.), will exchange forces with an eye on the title fight, which, today, still belongs to the recently retired, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The fight between McGregor and Poirier also represents the repeat of a fight that took place in 2014, at UFC 178. On that occasion, the Irishman beat the North American with a knockout in the first round, when they were still playing at featherweight (up to 65,7kg.) .
