This will be McGregor's first appearance on 'Fight Island'. Despite having performed once last season, the Irishman's commitment took place before the coronavirus pandemic worsened and the Abu Dhabi space had not yet been promoted as Ultimate's 'second home'.

The confrontation in UFC 257 will mark the return of 'Notório' to the Octagon after a year away from fighting. Conor's last commitment took place in January 2020, when the athlete ran over Donald Cerrone.

Now, with an eye on the chance to regain the lightweight title (up to 70,3kg), the Irishman needs to repeat the feat achieved in 2014, when he beat Dustin poirier, when both still played at featherweight (up to 65,7kg.). A big incentive for McGregor is knowing that Khabib Nurmagomedov will accompany the show.

After meeting with Dana White, the current group champion and Conor's eternal rival made it clear that he will only compete again if he sees something spectacular on this weekend's card. Nurmagomedov announced his early retirement from the sport at the end of October, after crashing Justin gaethje and unify the group's belt.
