Khabib Nurmagomedov said goodbye to MMA after submitting the North American Justin gaethje No. UFC 254, in October 2020. The expectation of the Russian's return to the octagon still exists, but the former UFC champion Daniel Cormier and the Russian's training partner, the return of the 'Eagle' to the competition would only happen if he received the chance to face former welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg) Georges St-Pierre.

“It would have to be Georges St-Pierre. I believe that another big fight is what he would want just to prove himself. Khabib Nurmagomedov he's just trying to make history and a win over Georges St-Pierre would do just that for him. When his resume becomes so big, few things can add value. If he can go [fight] and beat GSP, it will be done”, revealed Cormier in an interview with the MMA Fighting website.

Asked about the fight, DC analyzed Georges St-Pierre's technical fit and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“I think GSP defends takedowns very well and also has good striking. He was one of those guys who almost seemed ahead of his time. As if we were learning to strike or fight, while Georges was able to do both at the same time. This was very rare at that time and that is why he stood out so much above everyone else. But if Khabib fought like we saw against Justin gaethje, the way the Russian used his striking, would show that it would be a type of fight in which the two can do anything”, he concluded.

Even though he is officially retired, Khabib remains number 1 in the UFC's weight-for-pound rankings and still holds the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg). The Russian remained undefeated, with 29 wins, but his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov's, wish was always to see his son end his career with a 30-0 record and face the legendary Georges St-Pierre in his farewell.
