Hired by Ultimate in September, Michael chandler is close to having his first fight confirmed in the organization. Former Bellator lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg), the North American has a verbal agreement to face Dan Hooker in his debut fight in the company, on January 23rd, for UFC 257. The information was released by Stuff.co.nz.

Chandler arrived at the UFC with the role of 'haunting' one of the company's most feared categories. Considered one of the greatest idols in Bellator history, the athlete became official as a direct substitute for the confrontation between Khabib Nurmagomedov e Justin gaethje, UFC 253. Michael even fulfilled his commitment with the scales at the official weigh-in for the show, held at the end of October.
After the spectacle involving Khabib and Gaethje, Michael even negotiated a clash with Tony Ferguson. The agreement with 'Bicho Papão', however, did not get off the ground, as Feguson wanted to fight in 2020 and Chandler, in 2021.
Now, the former Bellator champion seems to be aligned with the idea of exchanging forces against the current number six in the category's ranking. If he overcomes the New Zealander, Chandler, who is not yet officially among the group's elite, would be in a great position for a future title fight.
Michael hasn't performed professionally since August, when he defeated the UFC champion, Ben henderson, by knockout, at Bellator 243. Hooker has not fought since the battle against Dustin poirier, in June, when he was defeated in a unanimous decision by the judges.
If the confrontation is confirmed, Chandler and Hooker will face each other on the same card. Conor McGregor e Dustin poirier. The Irishman and the American exchange forces in a duel that could define the next challenger for the lightweight belt.
