After almost 12 years and a winning resume at the organization, Anthony Pettis is no longer part of the UFC. After holding – and winning – the last fight of his contract, last Saturday (19), the fighter and the company opted for non-renewal and the North American is free on the market. On his social networks, the athlete thanked the company and confirmed that he will continue in the sport. Pettis was even challenged by an important name in Bellator.

“Almost 12 years in this company and so many incredible memories. From winning my first WEC (World Extreme Cagefight) world belt at 23 to becoming the UFC world champion at 26. (…) Dana (White), thank you for everything you've done for me. I was just a boy (…) with a big dream and you helped me make it come true. (…) Lastly and most importantly, UFC fans, thank you. You gave me energy in every fight. I hope I managed to show everything that was possible. I'm looking forward to my future in sport. I guarantee it’s not over,” Anthony wrote on his Instagram account.

Pettis leaves Ultimate with two victories in his recent appearances. The athlete, who in recent years remained unstable within the company, ended up confirming his good phase and was promptly challenged by Patrick Pitbull, important name in Bellator's lightweight division (up to 70,3kg).

“See you soon”, wrote the Brazilian on Twitter.

Although he already has his first challenge, Anthony did not give any clues about what his fate will be after his time in the UFC. Today, Bellator's lightweight champion is Patricky's brother, Patrick Pitbull, who also holds the company's featherweight belt (up to 65,7kg).

At 33 years old, Pettis now has 34 appearances as a professional in MMA. With 24 triumphs and 10 setbacks, 'Showtime' held the UFC lightweight belt between 2013 and 2015. The North American lost the throne when he faced Rafael dos Anjos, at UFC 185.
