Although it started well, 2020 does not end the way it did. Mike Perry imagined. After dismissing his team and deciding to 'go it alone' in his presentations, the North American ended up not doing well in his last commitment, in UFC 255, when, in addition to not gaining weight, he lost to Tim means. Seeking recovery, the fighter appealed to 'Nata' and asked for an unusual gift.

Although, on paper, the duel brings together two athletes who accept the fight on their feet, Mike's request goes against the course followed by Diaz in the last few years of the UFC. The athlete, although not frequent in the company, has fought duels which promote a great financial return, such as Conor McGregor e Jorge masvidal.

While Perry has had eight fights in nearly three years, Nate has performed five times in the last five years. In 2020, Diaz even negotiated a rematch against Masvidal in the fight for the symbolic 'Most Thick in MMA' (BMF) belt, but the confrontation ended up not being made official by the company.
