Close to one of the most important fights of his career, Marlon Vera I couldn't be more excited for his next challenge. This Saturday (19), the Ecuadorian will have the role of facing José Aldo in one of the main presentations of the UFC Las Vegas 17. Aware of the great challenge, the bantamweight (up to 61,2kg.) bets his chips on his quality and believes that a triumph, in addition to propelling him to the top of the division, could seal the manauara's release from Ultimate.

“I'm a nerd for understanding how things happen in the UFC. This is a chance for him (Aldo) to prove that he can still beat someone who is growing, and this is a chance for me to send him home and I can stay. I came to be the champion and I’m going to take him out of that line”, said Marlon, in an interview with ‘MMA fighting'.

Packed with a great result in his last performance, when he defeated the promising Sean O'Malley, Vera wants to repeat the feat against the Brazilian this weekend. With his eye on the top of the category, Marlon believes he can contribute to Aldo's bad phase, get closer to the top and force a dismissal from the Brazilian, who has continued without winning since his bantamweight debut.

“This is probably the worst fight for him. It's just another day at work for me. (…) When the octagon closes, I will fight hard. I want to hurt this guy and take the win. I will not be intimidated and, as a samurai says, I accept dying to achieve victory. I’m not kidding,” he finished.

If he overcomes Aldo on Saturday, Vera could make a big jump in the division rankings. Today, the Ecuadorian is in 15th position, while the Brazilian is 7th.

Former featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg) and considered one of the best in the history of the category, Aldo is going through a turbulent phase in Ultimate. Without winning since February 2019, the man from Manaus now has four victories in his last 10 fights.
