Dana doesn't confirm a title fight, but surrenders to Do Bronx's performance: 'It was incredible'

If there was any doubt about the degree of competitiveness of Charles of the Bronx against an elite lightweight athlete (up to 70,3kg), the Brazilian pulled it off in style. After a 'ride' against Tony Ferguson No. UFC 256, the São Paulo native once again joined the group of athletes who dream of fighting for the belt and caught the eyes of Dana White, who, despite not guaranteeing the fighter as the next challenger, was full of praise for the Tupiniquim.

“Charles was incredible tonight. The ranking will be updated on Tuesday (15), and we'll see where it appears. He is one of the best in the world in the wildest division of MMA. He’s in the game”, said the president, in a press conference after the show.

Without pinning Do Bronx on a future title fight, White analyzed the duel carried out by the Brazilian, which represented the co-main fight of the night. On that occasion, the São Paulo native was subjected to the biggest test of his career – so far -, when he exchanged forces against one of the most dangerous men in the group in recent years.

“There was some debate about this fight, whether we would see the Tony Ferguson from the past or not. He was very affected by the weight cut in his last fight (against Justin gaethje, UFC 249). 10 out of 10 people would hit that armbar (locked in by the Brazilian at the end of the first round). That he resisted and continued to fight was unbelievable. It's yet another proof of how tough, resilient and crazy this guy is. Now he has to go home, spend the holidays with his family and think about what he wants for 2021,” concluded Dana.

The triumph over 'Bicho Papão' further confirmed Charles' good form. The athlete reached his eighth consecutive victory with the Ultimate gloves. Now, the athlete has reached the top 5 in the category once and for all.

Today, the division title belongs to Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Russian, however, announced his early retirement from the sport after the victory over Justin gaethje. Even with the champion's decision, Ultimate insists on keeping him at the top of the rankings, as it believes in the star's eventual return.
