One of the people most responsible for the success of MMA today, Mauritius Shogun performed below expectations in the UFC 255, last weekend. Former UFC light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg), the Brazilian did poorly and ended up losing to Paul Craig by knockout in the second round. After the show, the Curitiba native suffered an elbow injury (see below) and justified the performance against the Scotsman.

“Unfortunately, last night things didn't go the way I would have liked, and that's part of the sport. I suffered an elbow injury in the first fall I took, but that's no excuse, it's part of the fight and doesn't take away from my opponent's merits. An athlete's career is not just made of glory, and, thank God, I have been blessed many times with the reward of victory, the fruit of a lot of effort, which only those who live day to day really know what we go through” , wrote the legend, on his Instagram account.

With the defeat to Craig, Shogun ended up being the target of criticism from the company president, Dana White. In a press conference after the show, the 'big boss' did not hide his desire for the 38-year-old Brazilian's duel to be the last of his career. The former champion, however, has not confirmed whether he will hang up his gloves. The plan now is to regain energy.

“I have been blessed to have been doing this for over 18 years, and, in the middle of 2020, you are the great motivation that I carry with me, and that keeps me going this far. Now, I'm going to rest with my family, and think about my career. I know that my mission in this sport also goes far beyond the Octagon. Thank you, guys”, he concluded.

A professional in MMA since 2002, Shogun is considered one of the biggest names in the extinct Pride. In Ultimate, the Brazilian also left his mark. Between 2010 and 2011, the Curitiba native held the linear light-heavyweight belt (up to 93kg), losing the position when he faced Jon Jones.
