Renan Barão defends interim UFC belt in February

According to SUPER FIGHTS had already announced on Wednesday afternoon (05), the Brazilian Renan Barao will put the interim bantamweight belt on the line in early 2013. The athlete from Rio Grande do Norte will face Canadian Michael McDonald at UFC on FUEL 7, an event scheduled to take place on February 16, in London, England. The confirmation was made this Thursday on the organization's official Twitter.

The Brazilian, who has an MMA record of 29 wins and one loss, was waiting for his recovery. Dominick Cruz, current champion of the category, to fight to unify the titles. However, as the North American had a knee ligament transplant complication and will only return to the octagon in the second half of 2013, Barão will be forced to defend the interim belt.

In turn, McDonald has a professional record of 15 wins and one loss. The fighter has a good series of consecutive victories: nine, four of which in the UFC. In his last fight, the Canadian defeated the veteran Miguel Torres at UFC 145 in April
