Having just turned 41, Glover Teixeira showed that he remains one of the main names in the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg.). In the confrontation against the compatriot Thiago Marreta, UFC Las Vegas 13, held this Saturday (7), in the United States, the Minas Gerais native was scared, but managed to recover and, showing a lot of experience, overcame his opponent with a submission in the third round.

Known for his excellent jiu-jitsu, Glover entered with a clear strategy of not accepting striking against an opponent known for his aggressiveness in stand-up fighting. In the three rounds of the confrontation, Teixeira bet on grappling and came close to ending the duel in the second round. In the third, however, after coming close to being knocked out, the Minas Gerais native sealed the duel with a rear naked choke, which forced Thiago to tap out.
In the interview after the fight, Glover asked for a chance to compete for the division's belt. When the fight between the Brazilians was confirmed, Dana White made public the news that the winner would fight for the title. In recent weeks, however, the 'big boss' seems to have backtracked, suggesting a super fight between Israel adesanya and the current champion of the under-93kg division., Jan Blachowicz.
“Dana White, I'm an old guy. Will you make me wait? Give me a title shot,” said Teixeira.
With the triumph, Glover once again confirmed his good form and reached the mark of five positive results in a row. Recovered from serious knee injuries, Marreta returned to the Octagon after a year. The athlete from Cidade de Deus (RJ), however, had his second consecutive setback.
The fight
The confrontation began with Marreta taking the initiative with a front kick. Thiago continued attacking his rival with a series of crosses, which shook the Minas Gerais native. Groggily, Teixeira immediately tried to put the fight down. The athlete from Cidade de Deus tried to defend himself, but Glover exploded and got the takedown. From top to bottom, the miner attacked his opponent with punches and elbows. Marreta tried to defend himself, but the miner insisted on his position. The minutes passed and Teixeira continued with the advantage in the duel, stopping his opponent's actions. In the final seconds, Glover continued on top, but without much force.
In the second stage, he returned more aggressive and bet on kicks to the Minas Gerais' body. Aware, Glover dropped Thiago again and started looking for the submission. At a disadvantage, Marreta continued to be easy prey to the miner's sharp ground. Teixeira attacked with elbows and powerful punches. Close to the final minute, the Minas Gerais native continued to score and dominate his compatriot, who was just defending himself. The assault ended with Glover securing a rear naked choke, but Thiago ended up saved by the bell.
In the opening seconds of the third round, Marreta surprised Glover with a solid punch to the jaw, which took the Minas Gerais native to the ground. Thiago immediately went after him and tried to settle the invoice. With the scenario completely different from the previous rounds, Marreta continued looking for the knockout, but Teixeira showed a lot of courage and managed to turn the situation around. Glover managed to get to the back and, again, secured the rear naked choke. This time, Thiago couldn't resist and gave up.
