When the fight between Thiago Marreta e Glover Teixeira was made official, it was expected that the winner would become the light heavyweight (93kg) challenger, but that did not happen. According to Dana White, his first opponent Jan Blachowicz, new number one in the category, will be Israel adesanya, middleweight champion (83,9kg), and the announcement surprised the MMA community. At the pre-show press conference, Marreta admitted he was upset upon hearing the news and would like to face Adesanya. “When I found out that Adesanya was going to face Blachowicz, I was frustrated, but I have to see what happens after the fight against Glover. It would be fair for the winner to be the next challenger. I don't worry about what might happen. I have to do what I can, which is win, but Adesanya moving up to light heavyweight definitely cheers me up. I would like to face him and I believe I can beat him”, said Marreta.

“Focus on what I can control. I don't care what's going on. As a fan, I will watch Blachowicz vs Adesanya, but my concern is Thiago. Anything could happen. Me and him are going to make some noise! I don't do trash talk, but if I have to do it to fight for the belt and get Adesanya out of the way, I'll do it. I'll send him back to middleweight! He is very good and will be among the best. He's intelligent, he moves well, but at light heavyweight it's different. The difference in weight and power matters a lot. I think he will be knocked out by Blachowicz. The pressure and power are greater”, concluded Glover.

Currently, Thiago Marreta e Glover Teixeira are, respectively, in first and third positions in the light heavyweight ranking.
