Anderson's trainer considers it 'a crime' to face St. Pierre at welterweight

The possible and hyped confrontation between Anderson Silva, middleweight champion, and Georges St Pierre, owner of the UFC welterweight belt, each time he gains a new opinion on how and when the duels should be held. After Firas Zahabi, the Canadian fighter's coach, revealed that the fight between the champions should happen in the weight of GSP, Rogério Camões, the Brazilian's physical trainer, responded promptly and assured that the “Spider”'s sudden weight cut would be a crime.

“It would be a crime for Anderson to fight at 77 kg. He would even be able to reach that weight, but the physical loss he would have would be huge. We have to respect GSP, who besides being a great fighter is a physical monster. The Canadian would have a considerable physical advantage if they faced each other at welterweight,” said Rogerão, as he is known. For him, the ideal scenario would be a combined weight between 77 kg, the limit for the welterweight division, and 84 kg, the maximum for the middleweight category.

“For me, this fight should happen at 80kg, which would already be a sacrifice for Anderson. It would be his first time at this weight in the UFC, and we would have to implement very specific work for him to be able to perform 100% within his capabilities,” he said. “Anderson dropping 3kg and St-Pierre going up another 3kg would be fairest for both of them and for the public to be able to see a great fight” added the physical trainer.

Despite several rumors and opinions about the confrontation, the UFC has not yet managed to progress in negotiations for the duel.
