The Brazilian Thiago Silva was caught in the doping test for marijuana use at UFC on FUEL 6, a show that marked the event's debut on Chinese territory on the 10th. And for his rival, the Bulgarian Stanislav Nedkov, the result of the Tupiniquim athlete's exam was already expected.
“I had serious doubts whether Thiago would come out clean. He had little time to gain weight, and yet he was doing very well in the fight. I was looking forward to the anti-doping result,” said Nedkov, in an interview with Tatame magazine. The European light heavyweight also stated that, despite not offering benefits to the athlete, marijuana should remain banned from the sport.
“Of course, marijuana should be banned, it is the first drug to be banned worldwide. I consulted some medical experts and they told me that marijuana increases adrenaline in the body, and also expands the lungs and increases oxygen flow to the muscles, which helps with endurance. This, in addition to hiding the use of anabolic steroids, which have greater punishment than marijuana,” concluded Nedkov.
