the last appearance of Yoel romero was in the controversial clash against Israel adesanya, held in March 2020, and the result still leaves the Cuban upset. At the time, the duo was heavily criticized for the lack of action in the octagon, which ended up favoring the middleweight champion (83,9kg) and prolonging his reign.

Even with the meeting sealed, the Nigerian provoked, placing the blame for the fight not being exciting on his rival. Upon learning of this, the veteran did not let it go and responded on his social networks, saying that the only fight that was not in his best moments was precisely this one, as he believes that Adesanya was afraid of his power.

“I'm still standing in the middle of the octagon, waiting for you to attack me. I'm the #People'sChampion! I was watching my best moments and I have memorable moves in every fight, win or lose. Do you know which one I didn't have a good shot at? #Don’tForgetDoYoel”, Romero posted on his Twitter.

At 43, Yoel romero is in fifth place in the middleweight rankings, but is going through the worst phase of his career. 'Soldier of God' lost his last three fights, being defeated by Israel adesanya, Paulo borrachinha e Robert whittaker. His last victory came in 2018, when he knocked out Luke Rockhold. It's worth remembering that the Cuban fought for the category belt on four occasions, however, on two of them he didn't make weight.
