One of the most popular athletes in recent MMA history, Khabib Nurmagomedov will experience an atypical episode this weekend. On Saturday (24), at UFC 254, in Abu Dhabi, the lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) will have his first experience of performing without an audience in Ultimate – due to the coronavirus pandemic -, and the situation does not please the fighter. In conversation with the press, the 'Águia' explained how he feels about the scenario.

“When I fought here, in UFC 242, a year ago, there was a crazy audience, fans from all over the world came here. Many family members, including my father, were with me. It was a great time last time in Abu Dhabi. Now, it's different without the fans. Honestly, I don't like this energy. I want to fight when the fans return, but what can we do?”, said the Russian.

Respecting the safety conditions to maintain the physical integrity of the people involved in the holding of its events, Ultimate has not had an audience on its cards since the UFC Brasilia, held on March 14th. With the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing, there are no predictions about when the company will authorize shows with fans.

Even without his loyal fans, Khabib is ready to write another chapter in his MMA story. This weekend, the Russian will try to remain at the top of the lightweight division in his encounter with the dangerous Justin gaethje, who currently holds the interim belt in the category.

In addition to the title, Nurmagomedov wants to maintain perfection in his record. To date, the athlete remains undefeated in 28 matches played.
