“I'm going to watch his (Volkanovski) fights, the two fights against Max (Holloway). Very methodical, very technical, in the way he organizes everything. I'll have to re-study everything, not just the fights against Max, but his entire career. Then, I’m going to do what I do, which is do my best”, said Brian.
Champion of the category since December last year, when he defeated the dangerous Max Holloway, Volkanovski has not performed since July this year, for UFC 251, when he gave the Hawaiian a rematch. On that occasion, the Australian once again overcame the executioner of José Aldo, defending his title in a split decision. Undefeated in Ultimate and owner of a streak of 19 consecutive victories, Alex, in each engagement, impresses with his consistency and volume of fights.
Against Alexander, Ortega will have his second chance to win the category title. His first attempt took place in December 2018, when he was surpassed by Holloway himself. Brian hasn't stepped into the octagon since then.
Asked when he would be available to return to active duty, the American stated that he would not decide at the moment. The athlete's intention is to rest and then meet with the UFC board.
